Bangladesh's relief after a grueling day in the
final Test in Rawalpindi.
Despite
losing three wickets for just 16 runs on the first day, Pakistan managed to
amass a total of 448 for 6 in Rawalpindi. The standout performances came from
Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel, who combined for a fifth-wicket partnership
of 240 runs. Bangladesh faced a tough challenge in their final overs of the day
but managed to get through 12 overs without losing a wicket.
It
was a challenging day for Bangladesh, who had to bat after fielding for 113
overs. Openers Sadman Islam and Zakir Hasan navigated the difficult conditions
well, scoring 27 runs in 12 overs. As a result, Bangladesh ended the second day
trailing by 421 runs in Pakistan's first innings.
Pakistan
resumed the second day at 158 for 4. Rizwan and Shakeel continued their
unbroken partnership, adding 98 runs in the first session. Shakeel reached his
fifty the previous day, while Rizwan accelerated his innings on the second day.
Rizwan and Shakeel both score centuries, with Rizwan
reaching his milestone first.
Both
players completed their third career centuries early in the second session.
Shakeel achieved his milestone with a boundary off Mirage, while Rizwan reached
his century with a four through midwicket, needing 143 balls.
Bangladesh
struggled to make an impact against the Rizwan-Shakeel partnership. Liton Das
had several tough chances behind the stumps but could not capitalize on them.
The breakthrough finally came 15 minutes before the tea break when Shakeel
missed a ball from Mirage and was stumped. The TV umpire confirmed the
decision, and Shakeel was out for 141 off 261 balls.
As
Shakeel departed, Rizwan was advancing towards his first career double century.
He added 44 runs with Agha Salman and another 50 runs with Shaheen Shah Afridi.
Shakib Al Hasan took his only wicket of the innings by dismissing Salman for
19, who was caught at backward point.
Afridi
played aggressively, scoring 29 runs with 1 four and 2 sixes. Bangladesh
struggled to break the partnership between Rizwan and Afridi. The declaration
of the innings by Shaan Masood, with an hour left in the day, came as a
surprise. Rizwan’s unbeaten 171 included 11 fours and 3 sixes.
Masood’s declaration seemed aimed at giving Bangladesh a challenging target, but Sadman and Zakir managed to see off the remaining overs. Despite efforts from Afridi, Nasim Shah, and Khurram Shehzad, Bangladesh’s openers remained solid. While Bangladesh was significantly behind, the resolute performance of the openers provided a glimmer of hope and motivation for the team.
