Pakistan's second innings began
shakily, with opener Saim Ayub being dismissed early by Shoriful Islam, caught
behind by Liton Das for just 1 run. However, Abdullah Shafique (12*) and
captain Shan Masood (9*) managed to steady the innings, and Pakistan will
resume on the fifth and final day at 23 runs for 1 wicket. Unless something
dramatic happens, the Rawalpindi Test is likely to end in a draw.
Earlier in the match, the
Bangladeshi batsmen set a new record for their third-highest Test score.
Mushfiqur Rahim's impressive innings of 191 runs, along with half-centuries
from Sadman Islam, Muminul Haque, Liton Das, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, contributed
to Bangladesh's formidable total.
Mushfiqur also became the third
Bangladeshi batsman, after Habibul Bashar Sumon and Javed Omar Belim, to score
a century on Pakistani soil. His century was the first by a Bangladeshi batsman
in Pakistan in 21 years.
Mushfiqur shared a 114-run
partnership with Liton Das at the beginning of the fourth day and later added a
crucial 196-run stand for the seventh wicket with Mehidy Hasan Miraz. However,
he was denied what would have been the fourth double century of his career,
falling just 9 runs short. Earlier, Sadman Islam, who had returned to the
national team after two and a half years, also fell just 7 runs short of a
century.
In addition to Mushfiqur's heroics,
Miraz scored 77 runs, Liton added 56, and Muminul contributed 50. Shoriful
Islam provided a late flourish with a quickfire 22 runs off 14 balls.
Naseem Shah took maximum 3 wickets
for Pakistan. Shaheen Shah Afridi, Khurram Shahzad and Mohammad Ali took 2
wickets each.
